In a proud moment for the Tricity region, three young women have emerged successful in the prestigious Civil Services Examination 2024, the results of which were announced on Tuesday.
Among them, Aastha Singh, a 21-year-old resident of Peermuchhala in Zirakpur, secured an impressive All India Rank of 61. A graduate in Economics (Honours) from Shri Ram College of Commerce, New Delhi, Aastha cleared the exam on her very first attempt. She is currently posted as an Assistant Excise and Taxation Officer (AETO) in Panchkula. She attributes her success to consistent self-study, strong determination, and the support of her parents. “My grandfather was a big source of inspiration. I’ve always dreamt of joining the civil services,” said Aastha, who has roots in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Another success story comes from Mohali’s Sector 72, where 27-year-old Riya Kaur Sethi earned the 89th rank after four attempts. A former student of St. Kabir School and Bhavan Vidyalaya, Riya holds an Economics (Honours) degree from Khalsa College, Delhi, and completed her postgraduation from JNU with a focus on Economics and Development Studies. For the UPSC examination, she chose Sociology as her optional subject.
Tanvi Gupta, 28, from Sector 2, Panchkula, clinched the 187th rank in her fifth attempt. Despite narrowly missing out on previous attempts—including one where she fell short by a single mark—her perseverance paid off. An alumnus of Panjab University, Tanvi holds both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Economics and has cleared the UGC-NET. Her aspiration to become an IAS officer took shape during her final year of college.
All three women have shown that with resilience, hard work, and a clear vision, cracking one of the country’s most challenging exams is within reach
